And today we have a bonus video in place of a regular blog post, which was inspired by Rosanna Pansino’s “WEARING SUPER LONG ACRYLIC NAILS For 24 Hours Challenge!” video. I was hoping to post it for “YouTubesDay,” but let me tell you, this video’s editing was a J O U R N E Y. It was really handy to have this one edited & uploaded into YouTube already.

This challenge ended up being a fun demonstration of why harpists (from the European schools) don’t typically have long fingernails. Feel free to share it with your students if they’re wondering about that rule!
Part of why I’m sharing this computer story is so that maybe I can go back & be reminded of this someday. If you aren’t interested in my technological rambling (it’s also debatable how much I know what I’m talking about), just scroll right down to the video. 🙂
The actual video took a while to edit, but that wasn’t the main issue. There were some technical issues, including my beloved Olive video editor. I got the video all edited on the Windows version of Olive, then it came time for exporting. It kept crashing. I tried it on another computer (which didn’t have the original files, so that didn’t work), deleted and reinstalled it on the original computer, & didn’t know my Linux (Linux is an operating system, analogous to Windows or Mac) password to download Olive on that computer. But wait, there’s more.
I reinstalled Linux. It seemed like it had changed quite a bit since the version of Ubuntu Studio I had before. Turns out I had installed a different Linux distro (version): Ubuntu instead of Ubuntu Studio. I think I downloaded Olive somewhere in there & it still wouldn’t export right. I don’t remember for sure.
I eventually installed Ubuntu Studio again. I might’ve tried Olive again….I’m not totally sure. At one point, I was re-adding the files that weren’t showing up & decided that I should try exporting to see if it worked before spending all that time. It’s a good thing I did. It still was crashing.
So, I tried a little OpenShot & Kdenlive. I finally re-edited the video with Kdenlive, which I hadn’t really used before. It was a little reminiscent of my days in orchestration class, when I was adjusting to Mac & Finale in the Mac lab for assignments (spent quite a bit of time there with this gal). That was kind of rough, but like this experience, makes for a good story.
So, after many crashes, several installations, transferring files, & a lot of learning (frustration too, but c’est la vie), here is the “Really Long Nail Challenge: harp edition,” or something like that. Please watch, like, comment, & subscribe so that all that time wasn’t for nought. It’s ok if it’s a pity like. 😉
