Katy & I first met in Orchestration & Arranging (Arrangement? I don’t remember for sure) class in college. We spent a decent amount of time in the Mac lab using Finale.

Katy has been a huge help to me in my biz journey, & I even got to hang out in the recording booth with her once!
Katy was a guest on the blog for her EP “Lullabies From the Stable,” & she just released her single title “Fear Not.” She agreed to be today’s guest for “5 Questions with…” in the midst of this adventure!
Would you tell us a little about your musical background?
I have absolutely loved all things music since I was a kid. I began playing piano by ear in elementary school and loved experimenting with my own arrangements of songs. I fell in love with singing and eventually went on to study Voice at Florida Gulf Coast University. After graduating I began my journey as a recording artist.
What should listeners expect from your upcoming album?
The first single, Fear Not, will release on all platforms on September 27th, and you can pre-save it here. The lyric video is already released and can be viewed here. I would definitely recommend checking it out to get a taste of what the rest of the album will be like. Listeners can expect an expansive soundscape with lyrical content that comes from a variety of scripture passages in the Bible.
How did this recording project differ from Lullabies From the Stable or Barefoot Saturday recording projects?
This project differs greatly from the Barefoot Saturday release because 1. it is a solo project and 2. the intent for these songs is that they be catalysts for intimate worship to Jesus Christ. While “Lullabies” is identical to the purpose behind my upcoming releases, it differs in that it was self produced by yours truly. The Barefoot Saturday album was also self produced. The new music coming from me, like Fear Not, is in collaboration with a Nashville producer who is incredible at his craft.
Any memorable &/or funny stories from the album process?
There are so many memorable moments and funny stories because anyone that knows me, knows I’m often a total goofball. I think one of the most memorable was when we had to shut down the studio for the day because of a seemingly random tornado that suddenly blew through where we were recording. A portion of my producer’s fence actually was blown over. It was certainly exciting!
What’s one piece of advice you’d like to share with someone wanting to release an album?
My advice would be to really self examine and find out what the purpose or goal would be in releasing said album. If there is a clear, definitive goal or passion behind the project, that passion will translate over to the music and hopefully cultivate a certain authenticity that will stand out from the sea of music being released every week.
