The Fourth of July is coming up, and if you’re in the US, that means Independence Day! Whether you are in the US or elsewhere, this is an opportunity to explore American music.
- This might be a fun theme for a music camp as well.
- Check out Petrucci Music Library‘s American people category.
- I haven’t watched this, but the PBS American Roots Music series and/or website can serve as a resource for you and/or your students (you and/or parents should preview for children to see if it’s age-appropriate).
- Did you know that there’s a Society for American Music?
- Mrs. King’s Music Class has some ideas for teaching American patriotic songs in the elementary classroom in this post. I really like her idea of teaching etiquette for the Star-Spangled Banner!
Check out a past Fourth of July roundup here.
Who is your favorite American composer? Let me know in the comments, on Facebook, on Instagram, or on Twitter!
