With Easter so quickly after St. Patrick’s Day this year, I have a bonus post this week! Yay! Enjoy this versatile Easter egg sight-reading activity, suitable for many different instruments and levels.
Also, aren’t these “eggs” too cute?!
Put a line of music in the Easter egg for the student to sight-read. You could do this right hand/left hand or both hands together (if applicable), rhythms, or even one note. There are many potential variations!
You can cut up old music, print some royalty-free music, or even just hand-write some.
Have your student choose an egg and take out the music. It can be tricky to get it to stay unrolled! You might consider bringing music clips or clothespins to clip it to the music stand or piano. You could also tape it to a piece of paper or a folder.
Depending on how long it takes the student, you might use multiple eggs in a lesson or just one.
I included stickers in the eggs for after the student’s sight-reading, because I love stickers and it’s a great way to use up some of your sticker stash (What? You don’t have a stash of stickers?!). You can include a sticker, a small prize of other sorts, or just the music.
Like I said earlier, there are many variations on this that you can try! Let me know what you do!

P.S. I feel like I must’ve learned this from somewhere….if you know of other bloggers or teachers who have done a similar activity, please put a link in the comments.
