COVID-19 Resources for Musicians & Music Educators — information, products

There’s a lot of uncertainty about COVID-19, & educators are learning to adapt as schools are scheduled to re-open. Whatever your thoughts on the severity of the coronavirus & efficacy/necessity of masks, you’ve almost no doubt seen a lot of precautions added to life.

This post may contain affiliate links, banners, &/or embeds. If you make a purchase through one of these links, I may earn a commission at no additional cost to you (more info here). I try to mark most in-text links with an asterisk. Thank you for your support!

I was recently in a virtual meeting where instrument bell covers were discussed for school instrumental classes. One thing led to another in this little brain of mine, & here we have a roundup of some information & products that might help you as we ease away from distance lessons & return to a somewhat normal schedule again.

I have not necessarily used any of these products or tested the information. Use this information & these products at your own risk, & do research on your own as well.

Even without the coronavirus, I recommend making pre-lesson hand washing part of your studio routine.

Harp Sanitizing

This video on sanitizing your harp from Peter Wiley has some helpful information for cleaning your harp, even after the coronavirus has passed (also, how cool is that door in the background?).

The above video had a link in the description box to Salvi‘s suggestions, which you might peruse. Camac also has some suggestions. Check your harp manufacturer’s website or contact the manufacturer directly for more detailed directions specified to your instrument.

Wind Instruments – Face Masks

So, how does one play an instrument with a face mask? Never fear, the internet has some help for this conundrum!

  • David Mersiovsky has some clever hacks using everyday items in this video. I can’t quite tell if all or just some of them are supposed to be silly, but I think some of these hacks could work!

I’ve got some more things in the works, which I’ll plan to add to this post, so stay posted!

Do you know of any resources I missed? Be sure to share them with me on social media or in the comments section!
