Now, I don’t have the world’s largest music studio by any means. I don’t think I really want that. I’m learning that bigger isn’t necessarily better, but bills have gotta be paid, amiright? Plus, there are some really cool potential students out there, & you probably want to spread your love of music!
Are you looking to build your studio? Here are 5 tips/ideas for building your music studio.
1. Network, network, network.
You never know who you might meet! Have your business cards on you & ready to share. It’s ok if it doesn’t lead directly to students or jobs; you still have the opportunity to meet some interesting people! Some of the other tips could also probably fall under networking, too.
2. Return communication quickly.
This is one I need to work on. I’m usually fine with email & text, but phone calls/voicemail? I’m pretty atrocious at that. If you have the same problem, consider leaving your website &/or email address on your voicemail, as well as encouragement to send a text. Make sure it’s easy to contact you on your website.
3. Online directories.
Add your name & contact info (you don’t need to include your home address, often not even your telephone number) to music teacher directories. If you’re a harp teacher, think about websites such as Harp Column, & Sylvia Woods Harp Center.
4. Music stores.
Your local music store(s) probably keep a list of local instructors. See if your name can be added to the list.
5. Cyber lessons.
With the accessibility of the internet, you can have students all over the world! While I don’t think cyber lessons quite replace in-person lessons, they can still be beneficial. Sometimes a student doesn’t live near an instructor, schedules don’t always quite match up, or maybe a student is on vacation. This is a great option to offer.
